After an day in the encampment we were liberated for a few hours. We planned to mill around evening shops in the town of Niort, south of Partheney but diverted to the canalside village of Coulon on the Marais Poitevin... known as Green Venice as its labyrinthine canals can be punted along for miles... almost to La Rochelle at the coast.
